JUNE 26 MUNICIPAL BAND OPENING CONCERTS

The opening concerts planned for June 26 begins with the popular Sousa march, “Washington Post,” followed by two movements of a major concert band composition “First Suite in E Flat,” by Gustav Holst. 

Guest performing artists are next, featuring the Dolores Shearer Dancers. Dolores Shearer is the owner and artistic director of the studio. The 
dance studio is celebrating 43 years of dance this year helping many students achieve personal development with poise, grace and self-confidence through the art of dance. The Dolores Shearer Dance Studio located in St. Joseph has provided entertainment for many community activities and offers professional dance training for children in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz and lyrical dance.

The dance ensemble will perform: 
1. DANCE WITH CLASS --Kristina Battani, Arthi Bharadwaj, Kirsten Bonawitz, Mackenzie Lane, Madison Picone, Melaina VonBehren; 
2. CHATTANOOGA CHOO CHOO - Mia Altholtz, Kendall 
Cantrell, Meredith Ellis, Sidney Fillwock, Camryn Lane, Georgia Warmbein;
3. FABULOUS FEET - RIVERDANCE - Melissa Chancey, Sarah Chancey, Brittany Ellis, Alexis Finch, Elisa Herrman, Payton McFall, Lindsay Peirce, Elizabeth Reimers, Allyson Walter, Kelsey Zinkil.

The program then dedicates the next two numbers to the life of Donelle Moely Ruiters, Dr. & Mrs Moely's daughter, who recently passed away.  First will be “Amazing Grace,” a very artistic arrangement by Frank Ticheli.

 

The next number will be feature vocal soloist for the opening of the 
season, Michelle Bythrow, who will sing a song Donelle often sang herself. “You Light Up My Life.”  

Michelle Bythrow has been featured as a guest vocalist with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Tsung Yeh.She was recently awarded a full-ride scholarship to attend the University of Notre Dame in pursuit of a Masters of Sacred Music which she completed this spring. Michelle teaches voice, piano and guitar lessons at Granger Christian Schools and at her home.

This will be followed by a concert band arrangement of John Higgins “Beatles: Echos of an Era.”

The concert then concludes with William Walton’s “Crown Imperial,” a musical salute to one of the most watched recent weddings, that of Prince William and Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey in London.

JUNE 26 ‘BIG BAND’ CONCERT AT 9:00 P.M.

“The beginning of the St. Joseph Municipal Band 2011 season will kick off with a ‘late night’ show performed by the St. Joseph Municipal Big Band at 9:00 p.m.. The program will include a guest vocal solo performance by vocal soloist Michelle Bythrow, of Granger, IN. The Big 
Band concert will include some new and requested favorites.

The added late night show “Big Band” concert is always featured from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m., after the evening concert on the first Sunday of the season (June 26) and again on the last Sunday of the season (September 4), the evening before the Municipal Bands closing concerts of the season on Labor Day, September 5.

The concert season continues with 3:30 and 7:30 concerts each Sunday at the John E. N. Howard Band Shell through September 4. Additionally the band performs its double concerts on Monday July 4 and on Labor Day, Monday, September 5, which concludes the season.
