The St. Joseph Municipal Band continues the 2008 season summer concerts with its normal set of double concerts on Friday, July 4th, at the regular 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. times at the John E. N. Howard Band Shell in downtown St. Joseph overlooked Lake Michigan. The July 4 concerts are traditional in that they will feature all patriotic music and will again honor the veterans of all our services that have helped keep our freedom for the United States of America. Featured vocal soloists in the concert will include Bump and Nancy Enders.

The band begins its patriotic concert with "The Liberty Bell March" by John Philip Sousa,, followed by an very unique composition by the famous American composer Charles Ives entitled "Variations on America.." The band then offers "Star Spangled Spectacular," by John Cacavas, which includes several patriotic songs. "

The band then features it vocal soloists who will perform a duet in the ever popular Lee Greenwood song of "God Bless the U.S.A. Vocalists performing are Bump and Nancy Enders.

BUMP AND NANCY ENDERS have been married for 20 years and have 2 daughters, Amy and Sarah. The Enders' attend First Church of God, St. Joseph and are active in the music program there, participating with the choir, worship team and orchestra. They have performed for The Relay for Life, South Haven Venetian Festival, The Rotary Club and various other community organizations and churches. Nancy has been a member of Pro Musica of St. Joseph.

Another American composer is featured next in "Irving Berlin’s Songs for America."

Berlin’s songs included in the arrangement are: "This is the Army, Mister Jones," "Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor," "This Is A Great Country," and "God Bless America." Next is heard a famous arrangement by Carmen Dragon of a familiar tune, "America the Beautiful." The band then plays a Harold Walters composition titled "Duty, Honor, and Country, " which features a narration which will be done by Kristie Detgen, french horn player of the band.

The band then performs a dedication number when it performs all the songs of the Armed Services and invites the members to stand while their respective service song is played as they are honored. This is followed by the vocal duet of Bump and Nancy Enders singing "God Bless America."

The concert concludes with John Philip Sousa’s most famous march "The Stars and Stripes Forever."

Director Dr. Donald Moely indicated that before the encore for the concert is played (which is the last strain of "The Stars and Stripes Forever"), all the veterans are asked to come up on the stage to receive a final recognition for their service to our country, while the principal trumpet of the band play taps. When the front of the stage is all filled with the veterans who served our country so valiantly, the band concludes with its encore.
