FRIDAY, JULY 4th HOLIDAY
CONCERTS @ 3:30 and 7:30 p.m . The St. Joseph Municipal Band continues the
2008 season summer concerts with its normal set of double concerts on Friday,
July 4th, at the regular 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. times at the John E. N.
Howard Band Shell in downtown St. Joseph overlooked Lake Michigan. The July 4
concerts are traditional in that they will feature all patriotic music and will
again honor the veterans of all our services that have helped keep our freedom
for the United States of America. Featured vocal soloists in the concert will
include Bump and Nancy Enders. The band begins its patriotic concert with
"The Liberty Bell March" by John Philip Sousa,, followed by an very
unique composition by the famous American composer Charles Ives entitled
"Variations on America.." The band then offers "Star Spangled
Spectacular," by John Cacavas, which includes several patriotic songs.
" The band then features it vocal soloists who
will perform a duet in the ever popular Lee Greenwood song of "God Bless
the U.S.A. Vocalists performing are Bump and Nancy Enders. BUMP AND NANCY ENDERS have been married for 20
years and have 2 daughters, Amy and Sarah. The Enders' attend First Church of
God, St. Joseph and are active in the music program there, participating with
the choir, worship team and orchestra. They have performed for The Relay for
Life, South Haven Venetian Festival, The Rotary Club and various other community
organizations and churches. Nancy has been a member of Pro Musica of St. Joseph. Another American composer is featured next in
"Irving Berlin’s Songs for America." Berlin’s songs included in the arrangement
are: "This is the Army, Mister Jones," "Give Me Your Tired, Your
Poor," "This Is A Great Country," and "God Bless
America." Next is heard a famous arrangement by Carmen Dragon of a familiar
tune, "America the Beautiful." The band then plays a Harold Walters
composition titled "Duty, Honor, and Country, " which features a
narration which will be done by Kristie Detgen, french horn player of the band. The band then performs a dedication number
when it performs all the songs of the Armed Services and invites the members to
stand while their respective service song is played as they are honored. This is
followed by the vocal duet of Bump and Nancy Enders singing "God Bless
America." The concert concludes with John Philip
Sousa’s most famous march "The Stars and Stripes Forever."
