    The St. Joseph Municipal Band continues the 2008 summer season with its normal set of double concerts on Sunday, July 13 at the regular 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. times.

    The weekly summer concerts are held at the John E. N. Howard Band Shell in downtown St. Joseph overlooking the St. Joseph River and Lake Michigan. The July 13 concerts are the 4th of 12 double concerts scheduled for summer. 

    Guest performers for the concerts this Sunday will be vocal soloist, Brinden Brown. A french horn solo will be performed by Stacie Detgen, principal horn of the band. She will also guest conduct two pieces on the program.

    Director Dr. Donald Moely, announced the concert begins with "Michigan Triumphal" by Fred Null. Next the band features french horn soloist, Stacie Detgen performing "Concerto Opus 8," by Franz Strauss, arranged by Charles T. Yeago.

    Stacie is the section leader of the french horn section and continues by guest conducting a fanfare called "Pegasus," by John Gibson. Then Miss Detgen conducts a Frank Tichelli composition , "Sun Dance."

    STACIE DETGEN is in her 20th year of teaching instrumental music education and her 16h year at Charlotte Middle School. She is a native of Buchanan, MI. Stacie is a graduate of Michigan State University and has a Master of Music Education degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. She has been a member of the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra, the Lansing Concert Band, has soloed with the Meridian Community Band, and has been featured with the MSU Alumni Touring Band traveling in Europe. Miss Detgen is active in performing with the Gazebo Brass Quintet and solos and participates in the Charlotte Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church orchestra and brass choir. This is her 29h year of membership with the St. Joseph Municipal Band. She received a special honor by being voted by her peers as a finalist for the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association ‘Teacher of the Year’ for Band during the 2007-2008 school year.

    The band next performs "Military Escort" march by Harold Bennett. This is followed by a solo sung by guest soloist Brinden Brown, who will perform selections from the musical,"Oliver."

    BRINDEN BROWN, a native of Elkhart, Indiana, is a graduate of Bethel College and an alumnus of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. She has performed with many companies, orchestras, and choral groups across the country, including the Cleveland Opera, the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Early Music Ensemble, the Elkhart County Symphony, Southwestern Michigan College, and the Interlochen Arts Academy. She enjoys performing a variety of vocal styles including opera, jazz, pop, country, gospel, musical theatre, oratorio and early music. This will be Miss Brown’s ninth season as a guest singer with the St. Joseph Municipal Band.

     

    The band then features a Gaelic melody "Morning Has Broken," arranged by James Ployhar. Then comes "Big Band Spectacular," arranged by Jack Bullock.

    The concert concludes with a concert march by William Latham, "Proud Heritage."

    The hour long concerts of the 2008 St. Joseph Municipal Band summer season at the John E. N. Howard band shell are held each Sunday at 3:30 & 7:30 p.m. through August 31, with the series concluding on Labor Day, Monday, September 1.
